XTPL S.A. applies for a patent relating to a new method of printing conductive structures for the electronics industry

XTPL S.A., a global supplier of breakthrough nanoprinting solutions for the world’s electronics market, has announced the filing of another patent application, already fourth this year, to protect its competitive method of printing conductive mesh. With this innovative method, printed mesh can be transferred onto another substrate.

The conductive mesh printing solution developed by XTPL is unachievable by any other method currently in use.  Composed of longitudinal and transverse conductive lines, the mesh is used to create transparent conductive layers that do not absorb light and can be used as electrodes, for example in OLED displays.

“Our invention will afford greater freedom in the design of new generation electronic devices which include conductive mesh. With our solution, which we intend to patent, it will be possible to apply the conductive structure onto solid substrate, glass for example, and then transfer it to the target, flexible substrate. This will streamline and facilitate the process of industrial production of microelectronic devices,” says Filip Granek, CEO of XTPL S.A.

Patent protection for the new technological solution will allow the Company to increase its competitive advantage by optimizing the electrical parameters of the mesh without substrate-related restrictions.

In total, the Company already has 24 patent applications to its name. The steady expansion of the patent cloud ensures protection for XTPL’s global solutions. Patent protection starts from the moment the application is filed with the competent office. Development and protection of a patent family contribute to building the value of technology companies and their business position in commercialization processes.

In 2021, XTPL progressed from the phase of a research & development entity to the phase of an entity that commercializes its products. This was confirmed by the revenue of PLN 143 thousand from the sale of products and services achieved in H1 2021 (a threefold increase year-on-year). The first two business lines: Delta Printing System demonstrators and nanoinks have already found their buyers. The projects that the Company is working on together with representatives of global producers of electronics are awaiting industrial implementation. Three of the current nine advanced initiatives are the closest to achieving this objective.

The XTPL technology is a response to the three megatrends in the production of modern electronics. The industry is currently strongly focused on further miniaturization of the size and weight of electronic devices, modifying their forms and properties, and moving towards an increased flexibility and three-dimensionality. The recent global trend is also environmental protection by efficient use of limited resources while reducing the production waste, which is enabled by additive technology. XTPL develops its proprietary innovative nanoprinting solutions that support those trends, offering them to global players in the rapidly growing printed electronics industry. In 2020, its value was USD 41.2 billion (+11.0% YoY), in 2025 it is forecast to grow to USD 63.3 billion, while 2030 it is expected to reach even USD 74.1 billion (source: IDTechEx). This means an increase in the market value at a CAGR of 9.0% in 2020–2025.
