XTPL to supply another prototype production device to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

XTPL S.A. (WSE: XTP), a global supplier of ground-breaking nanoprinting solutions for the world’s modern electronics market, has reported a new sale of the Delta Printing System (DPS) for R&D and prototype production. The device has been purchased by IRIS Adlershof Institute at the prestigious Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The Company’s proprietary technology of ultra-precise deposition of nanomaterials for the electronics industry will be used in work on new sensor, photovoltaics and optoelectronics solutions.

The Delta Printing System will be used by scientists led by Prof. Dr. Emil List-Kratochvil of the Hybrid Devices group for research on electronic and optoelectronic devices (based on hybrid material systems, and organic and hybrid semiconductors) with additive processing. By developing novel electroactive materials and combining them with adapted structures and new methods of their processing, results of the scientific work can be applied in the area of sensor technology, photovoltaics and optoelectronics. The device is to be delivered by the end of 2022, and the first revenues from its sale are expected to flow to the Company already in the third quarter of this year.

“We became very much interested in the UPD method developed by the XTPL team. We first learned about it and the Delta Printing System at the ISFOE conference series in 2021. After we had the opportunity to find out about the capabilities of the method, we decided that the device would be a great tool for our scientists who are working on new technologies for sensor, photovoltaic and optoelectronic solutions. We are not going to stop at the academic research phase: moving forward, we’re planning to implement the results in real-life applications at our industrial partners who have been cooperating with our institute for a long time. We’re very happy that soon we’ll be able to incorporate the XTPL technology into our work,” says Prof. Dr. Emil List-Kratochvil, head of the Hybrid Devices group and expert in organic semiconductors and printed semiconductor devices.

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is the largest public research university in Berlin. Founded in 1810 by Wilhelm von Humboldt, since 2012 it is one of 11 universities of excellence in Germany. Part of it is IRIS Aldershof (Integrative Research Institute for the Sciences), which combines features of a research institute, development laboratory and institute for advanced studies, and provides infrastructure for interdisciplinary research in areas like photonics and space-time matter.

According to market analyses, the sector of electronic prototyping devices is to see a CAGR of 31% in the years 2021–2031 (source: Transparency Market Research). Analysts from Grand View Research estimate that in 2021 the prototyping segment led the market of additive manufacturing, accounting for more than 55% share of the global revenue (approx. USD 7.61 billion). As they noted in their report, prototyping is widely used by many industry verticals (particularly automotive, aerospace and defense) in the processes of precise design and development of single parts and components, and entire complex systems.

“This is another device for prototype production and research and development sold by us. It is expected that the market for this type of device will continue to grow. We’re working to ensure that Delta Printing System sales will grow as well. In this respect, the calendar is on our side, as due to the nature of their operations, our clients – mainly scientific institutes – finalize their internal investment procedures in the second half of the year. Revenues from the sale of the device for Humboldt-Universität should be reflected in the results of XTPL in H2 2022. It is worth emphasizing that over time DPS sales will drive revenues in other segments of our business. First of all, for DPS users we deliver orders for nanoinks, our unique replaceable nozzles, and cartridges. We also receive fixed readiness-to-serve fees,” says Jacek Olszański, Management Board Member and CFO of XTPL S.A.

According to estimates, in the first half of 2022, the Company generated PLN 2.97 million in revenue from commercial sales of its products and services. This is more than a 20-fold increase compared to the same period of the previous year, and 143% of last year’s sales.

XTPL develops and commercializes three complementary business lines based on its proprietary UPD technology, each of which can generate independent revenue streams: the Delta Printing System prototyping devices; conductive nanoinks, and the EPSILON printing heads intended for industrial implementation on the production lines of global manufacturers of next generation electronics. All the indicated technological solutions are based on the Company-developed technology of printing conductive structures. The technology responds to the three megatrends in the production of modern electronics. The industry is currently strongly focused on further miniaturization of the size and weight of electronic devices, modifying their forms and properties, and moving towards an increased flexibility and three-dimensionality. The recent global trend is also environmental protection by efficient use of limited resources while reducing the production waste, which is enabled by additive technology.
